I've always told people that when my birthday rolls around, for god's sake, don't give me a cake! I'm so sick of cake....I'd rather have a birthday sandwich, or a birthday salad, or yes, how about a birthday drink! Or several.
Wherever I work, I always have a policy of making all my co-workers a small birthday cake or pastry for their birthday. I just do it just because, and because I believe everybody needs to feel at least a little special one day a year! I ask for nothing in return, really, because that's really not in the spirit of giving, is it?
Well, I happen to work with some very thoughtful and creative co-workers! They were aware of my "for-god's-sake-no-cake" policy but gave me one anyway! This was a very special cake though, and a cake that I could not find at any bakery. This cake was my "dessert" and birthday dinner all wrapped up in one......all hail, the beef cake! That's right.....a lovely meatloaf baked in round cake pans, then iced with mashed potatoes and garnished with cherry tomatoes!
Lovely, isn't it? Delicious too.....my husband and I had it for dinner three nights in a row. Not only did I get a cake, but it got me off the hook from cooking dinner for a while.....a welcome break! Thanks to Chef Tyson and Susan, the creative brains behind the beef! All people should be thought of like this when their day rolls around!
