I hope everyone had a lovely Chrismahanakwanzakah!
I did.
Except for........that. Yes....THAT. Look at the picture, because hopefully you'll never have to see it again.
Candy Cane Roca. Limited edition. And for good reason. Because it's the most HORRIBLE candy I've ever put in my mouth!!!! It's an abomination to the original Almond Roca, which is totally awesome. The awesomeness of the original is what hooked me in, because when you see or hear "Candy Cane Roca" you sort of think...."hmmm....that kinda sounds good." And you TRUST the Almond Roca people because Almond Roca is so good. I mean, they wouldn't make something that's blatantly horrible......would they?
No! Of course not!
So this candy just flew into my mouth just like most food does on a regular basis, and a couple of chews later, it flew right back out. MY GOD! Peppermint and toffee in my mouth at the same time DOES NOT WORK! Ghastly. Terrible. Wrong. Just plain WRONG.
To be sure it wasn't just me, I offered my family some. My stepson's reaction was quite theatric and funny, as he leaned over the kitchen garbage can and made gagging noises. They were just as hoodwinked as I was...."Candy Cane Roca? Sounds good!"....only to realize their terrible mistake in judgement.
I'm wondering if the good people at Brown and Haley bothered to even taste this stuff. Did the marketing department just say "We need a holiday line....throw some broken candy canes in the toffee and call it good."? And the management guys said, "Hmmmm....Candy Cane Roca? Sounds good!" Or maybe the brilliant people who decided to mess with FRANGOS got fired and ended up at Brown and Haley? Two things....there's nothing better than the original mint Frango (all those other flavors just aren't that good and not worth the overinflated price they charge for them anyway), and there's nothing better than the original Almond Roca. The message here people is, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
Fortunately, none us require hospitalization. And I try to look at the bright side, such as "hey, there's candy in the house, and I'm not even tempted!" It'll help keep me on track in keeping my annual New Year's Resolution perhaps a little longer than last year.

[this is good] Eww...toffee and peppermint. My favorite Christmastime (or anytime) confection is Dewar's taffy. They have a terrific peppermint flavor. I don't even like taffy, but I like Dewar's.
